# Webshop development: custom online stores with integrations

Mesterséges Intelligencia Központ Kft. is a software development company based in Budapest, Hungary. We build custom online stores and connect them to payment, shipping and invoicing providers, the warehouse and the ERP, with artificial intelligence on request.

> **In short:** A webshop truly lightens the workload when an order reaches the invoice and the parcel label without anyone re-entering it by hand. We build that connection, either in a custom webshop or behind an existing platform.

## Hosted platform or custom webshop?

For many online stores a hosted or open-source platform is a good choice. Common options on the Hungarian market:

| Option | Strength | Worth keeping in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Shoprenter, UNAS | Hungarian hosted platforms: quick start, Hungarian-language support, local providers as ready-made extensions | customisation stays within the platform's limits |
| Shopify | international hosted platform with a large app marketplace, for several languages and currencies | many features come from separate, often paid apps; Hungarian providers often need a third-party extension |
| WooCommerce | open-source WordPress plugin, freely extensible, runs on your own hosting | the owner has to take care of hosting, updates and security |
| Custom webshop | fits the company's processes exactly, deep integrations | requires more upfront development and ongoing operation |

Hosted platforms run on a subscription, and the provider takes care of updates and operation. A custom webshop pays off when the products, the pricing or the ordering process do not fit within a hosted platform's limits (for example configurable products, B2B price lists or special discount rules), or when the webshop must work closely with an existing ERP or warehouse. If your hosted platform serves you well, there is no need to replace it: through the platform's API it can also be connected to the systems behind it. That is a system integration job; see [Process automation](https://www.mestersegesintelligenciakozpont.hu/en/services/process-automation). Our article [Webshop: hosted platform or custom development?](https://www.mestersegesintelligenciakozpont.hu/en/knowledge-base/hosted-webshop-vs-custom-development) compares the two routes in detail, with integrations and legal essentials.

## What we connect

- **Online payment:** card and other payment methods through providers such as Barion, SimplePay or Stripe.
- **Shipping:** courier and parcel-point services such as GLS, Foxpost, MPL or Packeta, with label printing and parcel tracking.
- **Invoicing:** automatic invoices, for example through Számlázz.hu or Billingo; the invoicing software also forwards the invoice data to NAV Online Számla, the Hungarian tax authority's real-time invoice reporting system.
- **Warehouse and stock:** stock synchronisation with the warehouse system or the existing ERP, so that sold-out products cannot be ordered.
- **ERP and CRM:** orders, customers, prices and product data from one shared source, without manual re-entry (see [Business software](https://www.mestersegesintelligenciakozpont.hu/en/services/business-software)).

## Artificial intelligence in the webshop

- **Product texts:** product descriptions, category texts and translations drafted with a large language model and checked by a person.
- **Search:** product search that understands what the shopper means (“waterproof hiking boots for rain”), not only the exact keyword.
- **Customer service:** an AI chatbot that answers from the webshop's own data on products, shipping terms and order status, and makes clear that the shopper is talking to artificial intelligence. Details: [AI chatbots and agents](https://www.mestersegesintelligenciakozpont.hu/en/services/ai-chatbots-and-agents).

## What do we pay attention to during development?

- **Mobile:** we design the interface for phones first, because many people shop on their phones.
- **Speed:** fast loading, measured by Google's Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS).
- **Accessibility:** the European Union's accessibility directive, [(EU) 2019/882](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/dir/2019/882/oj), has also covered consumer-facing e-commerce services since 28 June 2025 (microenterprises providing services excepted); we follow the WCAG 2.2 guidelines.
- **Findability:** structured data for every product (schema.org Product), so that search engines and AI assistants understand the range precisely.
- **Security:** card data stays with the payment provider; the webshop does not store it.

## Frequently asked questions

### Hosted platform or custom webshop?

If your products and ordering process fit within a hosted platform (Shoprenter, UNAS, Shopify) or WooCommerce, that is the quicker start. A custom webshop pays off when your product range or pricing is unusual, when a close connection to an ERP or warehouse is needed, or when the webshop is your main sales channel and you want to develop it without platform limits. The table above compares the options.

### Can you connect it to our warehouse and invoicing software?

Yes. We connect the warehouse system or the ERP through stock synchronisation, and the invoicing software (for example Számlázz.hu, Billingo) through automatic invoicing, if the system has an accessible interface (API) or the data is available in files or a database. Such a connection can also be built behind a hosted webshop.

### Can a webshop use AI?

Yes: drafting product texts and translations, a search that understands what the shopper means, and AI customer service that answers from the webshop's own data. We connect large language models (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to the webshop's data, and shoppers always know that they are talking to artificial intelligence.

### Can you move our existing webshop?

Yes, if the data can be exported from the old system: products, categories, customers and past orders. Permanent (301) redirects lead from the old addresses to the new ones, so that the search rankings you have earned are not lost.

### What does the price depend on?

On the webshop's functional size, which we measure in COSMIC function points (ISO/IEC 19761), and on the number of integrations, how custom the design is and the operating requirements. That is why we quote a price once we know the size; [Pricing](https://www.mestersegesintelligenciakozpont.hu/en/pricing) explains the method. [Write to us](https://www.mestersegesintelligenciakozpont.hu/en/contact) with a few sentences about the webshop you have in mind; the first consultation is free.
