Custom software development: we can build anything

Mesterséges Intelligencia Központ Kft. is a software development company based in Budapest, Hungary. We build custom software (web applications, internal systems, APIs, data processing) from the first idea to a working system.

In short: If no off-the-shelf product fits the job well, we write the software that fits the way you work. Where it saves real work, we also build artificial intelligence into it.

What do we build?

Any software a company may need. The most common jobs:

If you need an enterprise resource planning (ERP) or customer relationship management (CRM) system, we cover that on a separate page: Business software development.

Custom software or an off-the-shelf product?

Off-the-shelf software (SaaS) gets started quickly, and its vendor maintains it. If your processes are typical, it is often the right choice. The differences in brief:

AspectOff-the-shelf software (SaaS)Custom software
Getting startedfast, if its features fittakes development time
Fitthe company adapts to the softwarethe software adapts to the company
Connecting other systemsthrough the connectors the vendor offerswith anything whose interface or data is reachable
Further developmenton the vendor's scheduleon the client's decision
Source codestays with the vendorunder the contract

Custom development pays off when the company works differently from what packaged products assume, when staff copy data between programs by hand, or when the software itself is the business advantage. Often the answer is both: the packaged system stays, and a custom extension connects it to everything else. Our article Custom software or an off-the-shelf solution (SaaS)? covers the decision criteria in detail.

From idea to working system

  1. Free first consultation: you tell us the idea or the problem, we ask questions, and together we look at whether you need custom software or an existing product will do.
  2. Requirements and specification: together we write down who uses the system, what data it works with and what it has to do.
  3. Size measurement and offer: from the specification we measure the software's functional size in COSMIC function points (ISO/IEC 19761), and the offer and the schedule are derived from it.
  4. Development in stages: with regular demos, so you can see and try the working parts along the way.
  5. Handover: we hand over the working system; the contract governs source code and usage rights.
  6. Operation and maintenance: after handover we also take on running, fixing and further developing the system.

We sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) on request. How we work describes the steps in detail, and Pricing explains how we measure size.

Experience and our own products

We have extensive experience in business software: we are currently developing a large ERP and CRM system. Our own products are custom software too: the real-time 3D game on our homepage (WebGL, three.js), commented on by a live AI commentator in 14 languages, and an AI-based production line that plans the game's scenery and obstacles, creates them with generative image models, validates and schedules them. We describe them in detail on Our work.

Frequently asked questions

Custom software or an off-the-shelf product?

If an off-the-shelf product covers your processes and it is acceptable for the company to adapt to it, it is usually the faster route. Custom development pays off when you work differently from the norm, several systems must be connected, or the software itself is the business advantage. A mix is also possible: the packaged system stays and gets a custom extension.

Do we need a finished specification?

No. A few sentences on what you want to achieve are enough. We write the specification together during the requirements phase; if you already have a description, a plan or an old system, we start from that.

How does the work start?

Write to us or call us, and tell us your idea in a few sentences. The first consultation is free. Then come the requirements and the specification, followed by an offer based on the measured size.

Who owns the source code?

The contract governs source code and usage rights. If you wish, we run the software and develop it further after handover.

What do the price and the schedule depend on?

Mainly on the software's functional size, which we measure in COSMIC function points: we count the data movements (Entry, Exit, Read, Write) in the system's processes. This measurement does not depend on the technology or the team. Integrations, non-functional requirements (such as performance and security), design and operation also play a part. Details: Pricing.
