Mobile app development for iOS and Android

Mesterséges Intelligencia Központ Kft. is a software development company based in Budapest, Hungary. We build iOS and Android apps, together with the backend and admin interface behind them, integrate artificial intelligence, and see the app through to its release in the stores.

In short: we take on the whole system, not just the screens: alongside the iOS and Android app we build the backend and the admin interface, and see the app through to its release in the stores. Whether it should be native or cross-platform depends on what the app has to do.

What you get

A mobile app rarely stands on its own. Behind the app on the phone there is a database, user management, notifications and a connection to the rest of the company's systems. That is why we take on the whole system, not just the screens.

Native or cross-platform?

Both can be the right choice; it depends on what the app has to do. Our article Native or cross-platform mobile app? compares them in detail. The two approaches in brief:

AspectNativeCross-platform
What it isA separate app for iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin)One shared codebase for both platforms, for example with Flutter or React Native
StrengthEvery capability of the platform is directly availableOne codebase; a change ships on both platforms at the same time
A good fit whenThe app makes deep use of the device (camera, sensors, background tasks) or needs high performanceBoth platforms need the same features and consistent ongoing development matters
What to watchTwo codebases to maintainA new platform feature may arrive later or need extra native code

There is a third option too: if users will not look for the app in a store and it does not need deep access to the device, a web app designed for phones may be enough. The game on our own homepage works this way: it runs in the browser without installation, the same on desktop and on phones, controlled with a single tap.

Backend and admin interface

Most apps need a server: that is where user accounts, data and permissions live, and where notifications are sent from. This is also where we connect your existing business systems, for example a CRM, an inventory system or an invoicing tool, so that the app works with the same data as the rest of the company. If there is no such system yet, we can build it as custom software.

The admin interface is the control panel of the backend: content is edited, and users and settings are managed there. We built our own website the same way: a single Node.js server delivers the website, the admin interface and the requests that go to the artificial intelligence.

Artificial intelligence in the app

We connect language models from OpenAI (ChatGPT), Anthropic (Claude) and Google (Gemini), always the one that suits the task. A few examples of what AI can do in a mobile app:

The access key for the AI service stays on the backend, not on the phone: it cannot be extracted from the app, and usage can be controlled on the server. Our AI integration page covers the details.

How the work proceeds

  1. Free first consultation: write to us with a few sentences about your idea; we ask questions and tell you what it takes to build it.
  2. Requirements and specification: screen designs, roles, data, connected systems.
  3. Size measurement and offer: we measure the functional size of the development in COSMIC function points, and the offer and the schedule are based on it (how we price).
  4. Development in stages: with regular demos; you can try the test version on your own phone (TestFlight on iOS, an internal test track on Android).
  5. App store release: submission, support through the review, publication.
  6. Operation and maintenance: updates, bug fixes, further development.

We sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) on request. The contract governs source code and usage rights.

Frequently asked questions

Should we build a native or a cross-platform app?

If the app makes deep use of the device (camera, sensors, background processes) or needs high performance, native development is the safer route. If both platforms need the same features, a cross-platform solution with a shared codebase is simpler to maintain. At the first consultation we make a recommendation based on the actual features.

Does the app need a backend?

An app almost always needs a backend: as soon as it has user accounts, shared data or notifications, it needs a server behind it. The exception is an app that only stores data on the device. We build the backend and the admin interface as well, and connect them to your existing business systems.

Who publishes the app in the stores?

We handle the release: we prepare the store listing materials, submit the app and see it through the stores' review. We recommend that the developer account belongs to your company: that way the app appears under your company's name, and the store listing stays with your company.

Who owns the source code?

The contract governs source code and usage rights. If you wish, we also take on operation and maintenance after handover.
